Jon,

Great questions. The truth is that teaching tends to be more informational (after all, you do have to take an exam!). However, if I only teach dry information which you regurgitate on the test, I have not done my job. A computer can spit information back at me; I want to see life transformation.

As far as preaching goes, the contrast isn't between head and heart, knowledge and affection (you only have to read Edwards to know that). Rather, the point is simply to keep straight that we are aiming at the heart through the head. The affections produce men's actions, not mere thinking. If you want to see a man changed, you must first impress his heart.

I'd never quiet seen preaching/teaching in those categories. I see the value in Edwards and Keller's thinking. It definitely challenges the way I often communicate.
It also prompts the question what is the setting/medium for informational communication? And I can't help but feel that there should be a balance between informational and experiential.
It also makes me wonder are the two mutually exclusive? The old thought of logic afire.
If right thinking leads to right action... then experiential speaking leads to a right heart? (And shouldn't an audience be somewhat coached to listen that way?
My mind is inquisitive... sorry I know here too many questions there... :)
